Aromatic khichri in rice-cooker

Khichri, also spelled as khichdi or khichuri, is a popular one-pot dish that holds a special place in the hearts of many food enthusiasts. This humble and versatile dish is a staple in Indian and South Asian cuisine, known for its simplicity, nourishment, and comforting flavors.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup Green gram beans [moong dal]
  • 1 cup Basmati rice
  • 1 Black cardamon
  • 3 Green cardamon
  • 2 inch Cinnamon
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 4 Cloves
  • 1 tbsp Garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp Ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp Cumin powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Garam masala powder
  • 1/3 cup Mustard oil
  • 1/4 cup Fried onions
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup Onions sliced
  • 4 Green chilis

Instructions

  • First wash the rice and moong dal and keep it aside.
  • Then take the pot of the rice cooker and add the rice and moong dal.
  • Add all the dry ingredients along with the powder spices.
  • Now add mustard oil and fried onions and green chilis and mix it well using your hands.
  • After finishing mixing, add 6 cups of water and place it in the rice cooker and set the rice cooker button to cook from warm.
  • After the khichdi gets cooked, open the lid and serve it hot.

Notes

Garnish it with fried onions and serve it with beef/chicken curry.
