Aromatic khichri in rice-cooker
Khichri, also spelled as khichdi or khichuri, is a popular one-pot dish that holds a special place in the hearts of many food enthusiasts. This humble and versatile dish is a staple in Indian and South Asian cuisine, known for its simplicity, nourishment, and comforting flavors.
Ingredients
- 2 cup Green gram beans [moong dal]
- 1 cup Basmati rice
- 1 Black cardamon
- 3 Green cardamon
- 2 inch Cinnamon
- 1 Bay leaf
- 4 Cloves
- 1 tbsp Garlic paste
- 1 tbsp Ginger paste
- 1 tbsp Red chili powder
- 1 tbsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Coriander powder
- 1 tbsp Cumin powder
- 1/2 tbsp Garam masala powder
- 1/3 cup Mustard oil
- 1/4 cup Fried onions
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup Onions sliced
- 4 Green chilis
Instructions
- First wash the rice and moong dal and keep it aside.
- Then take the pot of the rice cooker and add the rice and moong dal.
- Add all the dry ingredients along with the powder spices.
- Now add mustard oil and fried onions and green chilis and mix it well using your hands.
- After finishing mixing, add 6 cups of water and place it in the rice cooker and set the rice cooker button to cook from warm.
- After the khichdi gets cooked, open the lid and serve it hot.
Notes
Garnish it with fried onions and serve it with beef/chicken curry.
